On October 23, 2026, Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch declared that a June 14 shooting by a Senatobia Police Department officer was "justified" after an investigation found no basis for criminal charges against the officer involved. The incident occurred when officers responded to a shoplifting report at a Walmart in Senatobia, Mississippi, leading to the fatal shooting of Kohen Wiley, a 1-year-old child who was in the vehicle driven by his mother’s friend as she attempted to leave the scene.
Bodycam footage released on October 21 revealed that officers surrounded the car and ordered it to stop. When the driver accelerated towards them, one officer opened fire, hitting Kohen Wiley, who was in a rear seat. The child died from the gunshot wound. Hunter Foster, the officer involved, subsequently resigned following pressure from local officials.
Kohen's family disputes this characterization of events, arguing that the use of lethal force against a vehicle with an infant inside constitutes excessive and unjustified violence. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump has called for further scrutiny into the circumstances leading up to the shooting and questioned the justification given by law enforcement.
