On October 25, 2026, St. John’s basketball team defeated Texas Longhorns, ranked No. 7 at the time, with a score of 87-74 in their final exhibition game before the regular season. Despite coach Rick Pitino's initial concerns about his team's readiness against such strong competition, the Johnnies performed exceptionally well, scoring 65 points from their top three players: Keyshawn Hall (24 points), Ian Jackson, and Tounde Yessoufou. The victory was particularly significant as it came just days after Pitino had warned that the game could be "ugly" for his team, which struggled in a previous quadruple-overtime win against Rutgers. This performance marked a substantial improvement and set a high standard for the upcoming season opener against Monmouth on November 2.
