Two large earthquakes struck off the coast of Vanuatu on Saturday, prompting a tsunami warning that was later rescinded. The first quake, originally measured at magnitude 7.2 but downgraded to 6.9 by the USGS, occurred about 197km west-northwest of Port-Olry and at a depth of 10km. Five minutes later, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 hit approximately 170km northwest of Port-Olry, also at a depth of 10km. While the tsunami warning was lifted, several aftershocks were recorded in the area afterward. No immediate reports of damage have been received from these seismic events.
