Willie Herndon, 42, and his wife Taiya Herndon from Arlington, Texas, were charged on Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of Alyssa Wilson, a 17-year-old high school student from Missouri. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday when Alyssa was driving south on Interstate 170 in Overland, Missouri to visit the zoo for a Halloween celebration.
Willie Herndon faces charges including first-degree murder and armed criminal action, while Taiya Herndon is charged with hindering prosecution for allegedly driving her husband to an Illinois hotel located 12 miles from St. Louis after the shooting. Prosecuting attorney Melissa Price Smith made these allegations at a news conference on Monday.
Alyssa's father, Robert Hickman, expressed his grief during the press event, stating that Alyssa was optimistic about her future and excited for adulthood. Neither of the suspects has reportedly obtained legal representation yet, and the state public defender’s office did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding their involvement.
