Hackers targeted the US Federal Election Commission (FEC) website on October 26, disrupting its electronic filing system just days before the midterm elections scheduled for November 3. The cyberattack began late Monday evening and continued into Tuesday, preventing political action committees and candidates from filing required 24- and 48-hour finance reports. According to an email seen by Reuters, a "bad actor" was attempting to breach FEC systems, leading officials to temporarily suspend web services. Though the exact cause remains uncertain, the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency are reportedly involved in investigating the incident. The outage has no impact on voters' ability to cast ballots but hinders transparency into campaign finance during this critical period.
