Lawmaker Mark Chong has called for increased inspections and the use of AI-powered sensors to address illegal parking in Hong Kong, where traffic police issued more than 220,000 tickets annually for parking-related offenses from 2023 to 2025. These fines generated at least HK$70 million (US$8.92 million) each year for the city's coffers. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan reported that police issued 259,589, 242,550, and 225,489 fixed penalty tickets in 2023, 2024, and 2025 respectively. Chong believes these measures could help target repeat offenders more effectively.
