On October 29, 2026, opposition lawmakers in Albania disrupted a parliamentary session by setting off smoke flares and blocking access to the podium during a vote on central bank legislation. The disruption was led by Sali Berisha of the Democratic Party, who accused ruling lawmakers of being "criminals." Opposition members also displayed photos of protesters injured by police rubber bullets. These actions followed weeks of violent anti-government protests in Tirana, where students demanded Prime Minister Edi Rama's resignation over alleged corruption and poor education standards. The unrest began in May after Rama approved a luxury resort linked to U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
