Quick Summary

Draymond Green discussed unusual scheduling for Game 6 of the WNBA Finals between the Valkyries and Dream, which started at 9:30 a.m. PT on Thursday, making it difficult for fans in different time zones to watch. Green suggested that State Farm Arena’s owner, the Atlanta Hawks, did not feel compelled to accommodate an earlier start because they do not own the Atlanta Dream. He argued this scheduling reflects the arena's business interests rather than support for the Dream. The article focuses on Green’s podcast comments about why the venue chose such an early time despite potential inconvenience for teams and fans.

Story summary

Game 6 of the WNBA Finals between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries was played at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Thursday, October 29, starting at 12:30 p.m. ET (9:30 a.m. PT). This unusual timing caused controversy among fans, with many criticizing the league for scheduling a potential championship-deciding game during lunch hours to avoid conflict with an NBA game that was originally scheduled for the same arena later that evening. The Atlanta Dream won Game 6 in front of a sold-out crowd, securing their first-ever WNBA championship.

The Dream attempted to find alternative venues to host the playoff game, but State Farm Arena was the only solution, and that choice came with its own set of problems. Green’s comments bring a new perspective to light on the WNBA’s scheduling decisions, but the egregious start time was evident no playoff team should have to endure.
