Christa Pike, a Tennessee death row inmate who survived a botched lethal injection on September 30, has broken her silence for the first time since the failed execution. In a statement released through her legal team to media outlets including WBIR and the Associated Press, Pike said she is in "constant pain" one month after the incident and blames it on "incompetence." She had been sentenced to death over the 1995 stabbing death of Colleen Slemme. Medical experts suggest that her injuries could be due to incorrect needle insertion or leakage of chemicals into her tissue. The Tennessee Department of Corrections maintains that it followed established protocols during the execution, but Pike’s lawyers say at least seven needles were placed in her left arm and she arrived at the hospital with swelling and blisters on both arms.
