Vantara, an animal rescue center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India, has announced a significant shift in its operations following years of criticism. The center, known as the world’s largest for rescuing endangered animals, recently halted imports and hired global experts to improve conditions. Vantara's CEO, Vivaan Karani, stated that the organization is now focusing on supporting wildlife in their natural habitats rather than relocating them. This change comes after a Supreme Court-ordered probe and pressure from CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), which questioned the legitimacy of some animals being traded as "captive-bred." The center houses approximately 200 lions, 200 cheetahs, and 150 tigers. Vantara's founder, Anant Ambani, pledged to address criticism through dialogue, transparency, and evidence rather than legal action.
