On October 30, 2026, HKT, a Hong Kong telecom company and subsidiary of PCCW, agreed to stop all operations in the United States under pressure from the FCC. The FCC had previously moved to revoke HKT’s authority to operate within the US due to national security concerns linked to its ties with China Unicom, which is a shareholder in PCCW. Under an agreement reviewed by Reuters, HKT must cease all international and domestic telecom services to and from the United States by September 1, 2027, after filing an application to discontinue these services within 30 days. This decision follows similar actions taken against other Chinese telecom companies such as China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom in previous years due to security concerns.
