Michael Carrick remained as interim manager of Manchester United despite mounting pressure following a series of poor results. In October 2026, after United's defeat by Bournemouth, Bruno Fernandes was dropped from the starting lineup and criticized Carrick’s tactics, leading to a benching that lasted several games before he returned for the crucial Premier League match against Chelsea on November 1st. Despite initial speculation about Carrick being sacked, he led Manchester United in their 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where center-back Lisandro Martinez was sent off after receiving two yellow cards, causing further controversy and frustration among fans and critics alike.
