Quick Summary

French club Lens dismissed manager Dino Toppmöller after only six games due to disagreements over team operations and restructuring plans. The decision came despite an initial win against Paris Saint-Germain in the French Super Cup, followed by mixed results in subsequent matches. Yannick Cahuzac will temporarily lead the team for its upcoming match against Monaco. Toppmöller’s short tenure ended abruptly after just two months since signing a two-year contract in June, and he accepted reduced severance pay as part of his departure agreement.

Story summary

Lens, a French club currently in 10th place in Ligue 1, fired Dino Toppmöller as head coach on Tuesday after only six games. The decision came following disagreements about the team's direction and organizational changes within the coaching staff. Despite an initial promising start with Lens beating Paris Saint-Germain in the French Super Cup and winning another match, Toppmöller could not align his vision with the club’s restructuring plans. He signed a two-year contract in June but has now had it terminated early. The 45-year-old German coach previously managed Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga before joining Lens. In a show of professionalism, Toppmöller waived a "substantial amount" of severance pay offered by the club. Yannick Cahuzac will take temporary charge for an upcoming match against Monaco.
