On November 1, 2026, during a college football game between Clemson and Florida State, Clemson offensive lineman Elyjah Thurmon suffered a serious helmet-to-helmet collision with a defender from Florida State. The incident caused the game to be paused for 11 minutes, as medical staff from both teams attended to Thurmon. ESPN declined to show replays of the hit due to its severity. While being stretchered off the field, Thurmon gave a thumbs-up to the crowd and was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. At halftime, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney informed the ACC Network that Thurmon was responsive and moving but did not provide additional updates on his condition.
