As of November 1, 2026, Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal announced that over 86,000 medicines produced by pharmaceutical companies have been registered under the Track and Trace System in Pakistan. This system allows consumers to use their mobile phones to scan products for authenticity and pricing information. During a speech at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Saturday, Kamal also highlighted that DRAP’s certification procedures, which had previously taken years, are now completed within 21 days thanks to digitalization.
The minister stated that more than 5,000 cases have been processed since the system was digitized eight months ago. However, he noted that medicine pricing remains a contentious issue, with pharmaceutical companies seeking price hikes while ordinary citizens face potential financial strain from higher costs. The matter is currently under consideration by the federal cabinet, as maintaining current prices could lead to shortages or other economic challenges for the industry.
