Quick Summary

In the recent Tasmanian Electoral Commission count for Hobart City Council, two women secured seats, preventing an all-male council outcome. Story summary

As of November 2, 2026, Hobart City Council avoided an all-male composition after two women were elected to it. However, Ben Lohberger, who was set to become deputy lord mayor, did not secure a seat on the council despite his election to that position. The Tasmanian Electoral Commission finalized this outcome. Consequently, the deputy lord mayor will now be chosen by the councillors during their inaugural meeting. This development ensures gender diversity on the council but leaves the leadership structure uncertain for now.
