Ryanair is considering temporary pay freezes and reducing crew numbers on flights due to soaring fuel costs driven by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The airline expects its fuel bill to increase by approximately €2bn (£1.6bn) for the next financial year ending March 2028, leading it to explore additional cost-cutting measures such as increased use of artificial intelligence (AI). Michael O'Leary, Ryanair's CEO, stated that unless there is a swift resolution to conflicts, fuel prices will remain high well into 2027, making even higher ticket prices insufficient to cover the rising costs. The airline also reported a 15% drop in profit after tax for the half-year ending September, despite a 3% revenue increase and a 6% rise in passenger numbers.
