On October 30, 2026, Aston Villa announced they would initiate legal action against former Liverpool defender and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, accusing him of making "unacceptable insults" about their club and fans. The statement was released after Carragher suggested on the Stick to Football podcast that Aston Villa's manager Unai Emery could be interested in becoming Manchester United's head coach. In response, Carragher apologized for his language on October 31, stating it had been meant "in jest." On November 2, Aston Villa dropped their threat of legal action against Carragher after he issued the apology.
