Story summary

As of November 2, 2026, Dutch authorities are offering a record €2 million ($2.2 million) reward for information leading to the arrest of convicted cocaine kingpin Jos Leijdekkers, one of Europe's most-wanted fugitives. Leijdekkers, also known as "Bolle Jos" or "Chubby Jos," has been living in Sierra Leone since 2024 and uses the alias Omar Sherrif there. The Dutch court sentenced him in absentia to 24 years in prison for smuggling over 7 metric tons of cocaine. Despite demands, Sierra Leone refuses to extradite Leijdekkers, leading the European Union to reduce aid to the country. Dutch justice minister David van Weel stated that increasing the reward was necessary due to the threat Leijdekkers poses to national security and democratic rule of law.
