As of November 3, 2026, Balochistan launched its fifth seven-day anti-polio campaign of the year, targeting more than 2.2 million children across 31 districts, amid concerns over the possible spread from neighboring Afghanistan. Balochistan Health Secretary Mujeebur Rehman announced the initiative and warned that more than 50 polio cases reported in Afghanistan this year had increased cross-border transmission risks, particularly in areas like Chaman and Qila Abdullah. Over 8,880 vaccination teams were deployed to administer polio drops to children under five, with special attention given to districts bordering Afghanistan and sensitive areas adjoining Punjab. Rehman stressed the importance of stronger surveillance and targeted vaccinations due to frequent movement between Pakistan and Afghanistan facilitating virus spread.
