Google announced on November 3 that it will disable access to its AI products, including Google Search, for K-12 students unless school administrators opt-in explicitly. This move comes after criticism from advocacy groups over the integration of artificial intelligence into educational settings. According to Chris Phillips, Google’s vice president and general manager of education, AI is now deeply integrated with Google's search engine, meaning schools that block its use will also lose access to Google Search for their students. The company stated it wants to give schools more control over how AI tools are used in the classroom.
