Private Aidan Goulding, a 23-year-old soldier from North Vancouver, British Columbia, was among four soldiers killed in a grass fire at CFB Wainwright in Alberta on October 17. His remains were returned home to B.C. on November 4, with a motorcade escorting the hearse from Vancouver Airport to New Westminster. Dozens of police officers and firefighters lined the route to pay their respects, including Sgt Major Ray Gardner of the Vancouver Police Department, who emphasized the importance of showing support for fallen soldiers and their families. As of November 4, 25 members remained in the hospital while 14 had been released following the incident.
