Andrew Reyes, a 30-year-old FBI agent, was arrested on Thursday morning after being fired from the bureau amid an investigation into a wrong-way driving incident that occurred early on February 3 in Brooklyn's Kensington neighborhood. According to prosecutors, Reyes was driving his agency-issued Chevy Impala against traffic with emergency lights flashing at around 6 a.m. when he hit and ran over a pedestrian who was crossing the street. The victim was left unconscious after being dragged by Reyes onto a nearby bench and had his belongings placed beside him on the bench before Reyes fled the scene.
Reyes allegedly lied to investigators from the Justice Department’s inspector general’s office in May, stating that he had never hit someone with an FBI vehicle and failed to report the incident. This further compounded the severity of his actions, demonstrating a disregard for both human life and his duties as an agent. Brooklyn US Attorney Joe Nocella emphasized that Reyes's conduct was "shocking."
