Five people, including two children, were rescued off Fanning Island in Kiribati on November 1st after drifting at sea for nearly three months. The group had set out from the island of Murilo in Micronesia on July 30th for a routine one-hour crossing to Ruo but was swept away during a storm. Villagers spotted and rescued them, while the other four individuals remained missing. The US Coast Guard initially suspended their search after covering 25,000 nautical miles but continues to gather information about the missing persons. The boat drifted approximately 5,400 kilometers east from Micronesia before being found.
