The Queensland government has proposed building 50-storey luxury towers next to Victoria Park in Hamilton, near Bowen Hills. This area was initially designated for development by former Premier Anna Bligh’s government over 16 years ago, with plans for 23,000 homes. The new plan would permit the construction of up to 27,000 homes and increase the height limit from 30-storey buildings to 50-storey towers. The precinct is also near key infrastructure sites such as a stadium and aquatic center being built for the 2032 Olympics. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie emphasized that this project would support first-time homebuyers by freeing up housing, while also accommodating hospitality businesses like breweries and micro-distilleries. Public consultation on the draft plan is open until October 9.
