Nickolas Wayne Peake, a 30-year-old WA Police officer, appeared before Midland Magistrates Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to aggravated common assault of his five-week-old baby. The incident occurred in Stratton, an eastern suburb of Perth, last Saturday. Following the alleged assault, Peake's infant was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital as a precautionary measure. Child Abuse Squad detectives laid charges against him on Sunday, and he has since been stood down from his duties.
Peake is currently living with his parents in South Yunderup, under protective conditions that bar him from contacting his wife and child. He will be sentenced on October 13 after a pre-sentence report ordered by the court. Police confirmed Peake’s participation in counseling programs aimed at addressing his behavior.
