Anne Kraybill, the CEO of Art Bridges, a nonprofit founded by Walmart heiress Alice Walton, aims to address the issue of artwork being stored away unseen in museums around the U.S. By providing funding, logistical support, and training, Art Bridges helps under-resourced museums display art from storage. For example, the Heckscher Museum in Huntington, New York, is currently supported by Art Bridges as it loans an exhibition featuring sculptures by Emma Stebbins to the Driehaus Museum in Chicago starting in October. A significant challenge Art Bridges faces is the strict humidity standards imposed by many galleries when lending out artworks, which can be difficult for older or rural museums to meet. To address this, Art Bridges has funded research and conferences to determine necessary versus optimal climate control requirements for preserving artworks.
