Elections Ontario has dismissed a complaint lodged by the Ontario NDP against Progressive Conservative MPP Harinder Grewal, alleging he failed to declare advertisements placed in his father’s newspaper, the Punjabi Post, during the 2022 election campaign. The NDP had accused Grewal of not declaring these ads, which were intended to support his campaign when he unseated their candidate, Gurratan Singh, in the riding of Brampton East.
Upon investigation, Elections Ontario accepted that an invoice for the advertisements was sent but "inadvertently not paid." The oversight body permitted Grewal to rectify this by paying for the ads and including them as expenses on his 2026 annual return. This decision underscores the body’s willingness to allow corrective measures even after extended delays, provided there is a reasonable explanation for the initial lapse.
