On Friday, the NYPD successfully rescued a woman who had climbed onto the steel beams of the Brooklyn Bridge, appearing close to jumping. Crowds gathered as she sat on a metal utility box with her feet dangling over the water. The NYPD Aviation Unit sent helicopters and the Emergency Service Unit rappelled down using harnesses attached to thick cables to reach her. Pedestrians like Mariana Madrigal witnessed the incident, noting the woman's distress despite not hearing her directly. Traffic was halted for over an hour as police coordinated the rescue. Afterward, the woman was transported by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital for a psychological evaluation.
