A package thief stole $17,400 worth of rare NBA basketball trading cards from a Brooklyn building's lobby on Monday afternoon. The stolen items included valuable cards featuring late star Kobe Bryant. Cops described the suspect as a brazen crook who was caught on camera smiling while carrying away multiple packages containing the high-priced haul. He wore an orange ball cap, a sleeveless Brooklyn Brewery T-shirt, camo shorts, and flip flops during the theft around 2 p.m., before slipping out of the building unnoticed. Surveillance footage showed him taking several packages from inside the mail room of a residential building near West End Avenue and Shore Boulevard. It remains unclear if the thief knew the contents' value beforehand; certain sports cards can fetch astronomical prices based on rarity, autographs, and condition.
