Sean and Melodye Rooney, who purchased a 57-acre property along the Stillwater River west of Whitefish in Montana with Sean’s parents in 2003, have permanently protected their land through a conservation easement held by the Flathead Land Trust. This agreement ensures that the riverfront tract remains undeveloped while allowing the Rooneys to continue living on and using it. The property includes more than 20 acres of hay production, riparian forest, shrubland, and wetlands.
Camera traps placed around the land have documented significant wildlife activity, including grizzly and black bears, mountain lions, gray wolves, moose, river otters, and other species. This monitoring highlights the property's importance as a wildlife corridor connecting larger habitat areas. The conservation easement formalizes years of efforts to preserve the area’s natural environment and ensures its ecological integrity for future generations.
