On Saturday, thousands of volunteers in Los Angeles County participated in the 37th annual Coastal Cleanup Day organized by Heal the Bay. The event included over 60 cleanup sites across the county, with notable participation in Venice and Santa Monica. Volunteers collected trash and recyclable materials from beaches, waterways, and coastal areas to reduce pollution that harms ocean ecosystems and wildlife. In collaboration with the California Coastal Commission and Ocean Conservancy, the LA event aimed to engage communities in environmental conservation efforts. Last year’s cleanup alone resulted in the collection of an estimated 19,000 pounds of trash. Similar cleanups took place statewide as part of the 42nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, expected to involve around 50,000 volunteers throughout California.
