On Sunday morning around 10:30 AM, Placer County Sheriff’s deputies encountered 44-year-old Derek Spencer in Iowa Hill. After pointing a firearm at people earlier that day, Spencer rammed a patrol vehicle during the encounter and fired shots at law enforcement officers as well as a sheriff’s helicopter. This prompted officials to advise all residents of Iowa Hill to lock their doors and stay inside. The suspect, described as bald with a goatee and wearing a black T-shirt, fled into nearby woods after the incidents. Authorities are searching for Spencer, who remains armed and dangerous; law enforcement teams face significant challenges due to the large area’s dense forest and rugged terrain. Deputies also discovered a murder victim believed to have been killed by Spencer during the ongoing manhunt.
