A 50-year-old woman, who experienced dizziness and unsteadiness, underwent brain surgery at Kyoto University Hospital to remove a benign tumour located deep within her cerebellopontine angle. The 10-hour operation was complex due to the proximity of critical nerves in that area. Despite negative biopsy results indicating no cancerous tissue, the lead surgeon ignored these findings and left the tumour intact. This error rendered the woman dependent on a ventilator post-surgery. Kyoto University Hospital issued an apology for the medical mistake and pledged to implement measures to prevent such incidents from happening again, as reported by local news outlet TV Asahi.
