On Sunday night at 11:13 PM local time, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a severe thunderstorm warning for eastern Vinton County, parts of southwestern Athens, northwestern Meigs, northeastern Gallia, and northeastern Jackson counties in southeastern Ohio. Radar indicated wind gusts up to 97 kmph and forecasters warned of potential tornadoes. One minute later, the NWS cancelled the tornado warning after the storm weakened below severe levels. Earlier, a severe storm near McArthur in Vinton County prompted the alert, with communities like Creola and Zaleski at risk due to wind speeds and potential rainfall. A flash-flood warning remained in effect until 6:30 AM Monday, covering northeastern Vinton County, southwestern Athens County, and northwestern Meigs County after up to 8.9 cm of rain was recorded.
