An unidentified projectile struck an oil tanker off the coast of Oman early on Tuesday, according to a statement from the UKMTO, a British-sponsored maritime security organization. The strike disabled the vessel by damaging its engine room but did not harm the crew onboard. The incident occurred roughly 9 nautical miles northeast of Ash Shishan, Oman.
Iran recently established the Persian Gulf Strait Authority to enforce strict protocols in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that vessels violating these rules could face punitive measures such as restrictions on future passages or fines. This latest attack follows a series of confrontations since joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran began in late February, escalating into an ongoing war over control of the strategic waterway.
The UKMTO did not identify the attacker responsible for the projectile strike, and no entity has taken responsibility yet. Despite efforts by the Trump administration to secure a diplomatic resolution through military operations and economic measures, restoring freedom of navigation remains a primary focus. Iran's continued enforcement of its blockade underscores the ongoing tensions in the region.
