On Monday, four CT-157 Siskin II turboprop advanced training aircraft arrived at 15 Wing Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. These planes are the same model expected to eventually replace the aging CT-114 Tutor jets used by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds aerial demonstration team after their final performance during the Grey Cup on November 15 in Calgary. The new Siskin IIs will primarily be used for training purposes, with a total of 19 aircraft being acquired over several years to modernize Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) training fleets. Some critics argue that switching from twin-engine jets to single-engine turboprops might change the Snowbirds' identity, but Major Zachary Charbonneau emphasizes these planes represent necessary technological advancements for future pilots.
