In Sydney’s inner-western suburb of Newtown, police are investigating an alleged Nazi salute that occurred on Saturday around 5:40 pm on Australia Street. A group of men allegedly yelled offensive comments and one individual performed a Nazi salute as they walked past the area where Newtown Police Station is located. Although no images were released depicting the alleged salute, police have shared pictures of four men who may be able to assist in the investigation. Displaying Nazi symbols publicly carries a maximum penalty of 12 months’ imprisonment, which can increase to two years if it happens near Jewish institutions such as synagogues, schools, or museums.
