S. Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, called for stronger multilateral cooperation at the Partners for Multilateralism, International Law, Peace & Prosperity (P4M) Summit in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Co-chaired with European Council President António Costa, Jaishankar stressed the need to reform global institutions amid rising geopolitical tensions and conflicts.
Jaishankar highlighted that 2025 saw the highest number of state-based armed conflicts since 1946, occurring in 35 countries, and noted record-high military spending of nearly $3 trillion. He emphasized the importance of international law and called for multilateralism to address global challenges like the "4F crisis" (Fuel, Food, Fertiliser, Finance) by encouraging diversification and de-risking strategies.
