Queensland government ministers have not confirmed whether they have read a full technical report assessing the suitability of Rockhampton's Fitzroy River for hosting Olympic rowing and canoe sprint events in 2032. Despite this, David Crisafulli, Queensland’s Minister for Sport, announced that international governing bodies have endorsed Rockhampton for these events. The report, conducted by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) and marine engineering firm WaterProof, remains unpublished. This situation raises concerns over transparency regarding environmental assessments ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane. Additionally, the International Olympic Committee still needs to approve a sustainability and environmental report for the games.
