Peel Regional Police conducted a months-long operation called Project Red Zone, which resulted in the seizure of 23 guns and over 950 rounds of ammunition from firearms traffickers operating across Mississauga, Ajax, and Scarborough. The investigation also led to the recovery of nearly 825 grams of cocaine. Of the seized weapons, approximately half originated in the United States, with 14 being directly linked to shootings in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). One firearm was tied to a fatal double shooting near Queensway and Dixie Road in Mississauga. The operation involved four search warrants over 10 months, starting in October 2025, highlighting the cross-border nature of illegal firearms trafficking into Canada. Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich emphasized the importance of local, national, and international cooperation for such successful outcomes.
