Super Norma, an Italian pasta bar located in Sydney, offers a cozy and charming dining experience despite its lo-fi appearance. The establishment features unique decor such as lampshades made from pasta colanders and cutlery held in empty tomato cans, adding to the casual yet warm atmosphere. Diners can enjoy ten different pastas, each handwritten on long brown-paper scrolls displayed above the open kitchen.
One standout dish is the prawn and ’nduja linguine served in a cardboard noodle box with proper stainless steel cutlery. It comes topped generously with parmigiano and pecorino cheese, defying traditional Italian cuisine rules that discourage using cheese with seafood. Another notable offering is a seasonal rigatoni featuring roasted Jerusalem artichoke and celeriac sauce, complemented by crunchy elements like fried sage and smashed hazelnuts.
For dessert, Super Norma offers big hunks of creamy Marsala-laced tiramisu served in vintage floral bowls. Despite the lack of a restroom facility, diners are treated to warm garlic bread upon arrival.
