The NHL announced that the Winnipeg Jets will now include both eras of their franchise in official team records. This means the statistics from the original Winnipeg Jets, which played from 1979 to 1996 before moving to Phoenix as the Coyotes, are now combined with those from when the Atlanta Thrashers moved to Winnipeg in 2011. Dale Hawerchuk, who died in 2020 and had his number retired by the Coyotes despite never playing for them after the move, is once again the top scorer for the Jets based on this consolidation with 929 points. This change reunites legendary players like Thomas Steen and Teemu Selanne with their original team's legacy in Winnipeg, though it leaves the current Arizona Coyotes as a separate entity without these historical records.
