In Brown County, Wisconsin, Judge Marc Hammer ruled against sealing evidence in a battery case involving Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs, potentially allowing a video showing him allegedly attacking his former girlfriend to be released. The judge handed over the decision on releasing the footage to the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department (HLPD), which will decide if it’s fair to make the records public and will grant both parties time to appear before any release. Jacobs was charged with one count of battery and one count of criminal damage to property after prosecutors alleged he threw a woman to the ground and damaged her phone during an altercation at his home in May. Since August, Jacobs has been on the commissioner’s exempt list, preventing him from practicing or playing for the Packers. His lawyer is prepared to seek another court order under Wisconsin’s Constitution and Wis. Stat. § 19.356 to prevent the release of these materials if the HLPD plans to do so.
