Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the failed blood-testing company Theranos, is scheduled to be transferred from a low-security federal prison in Bryan, Texas, to a halfway house in Del Valle, an unincorporated community near Austin, Texas. Holmes, 42, was convicted of fraud for deceiving investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars and was sentenced in 2022 to 11 years and three months in prison. She is required by law to pay back a total of $452 million in restitution to her victims. The transfer, set to occur next year, will provide Holmes with greater freedom as she transitions towards reintegration into society. According to court documents, Holmes continues to express plans to resume a career in healthcare technology post-release and advises her romantic partner on fundraising for his startup, which shares similarities with Theranos.
