During a visit to the Smithsonian, Peng Liyuan, China's first lady, witnessed a performance by the Hope Chinese School youth choir singing the iconic folk song "Jasmine Flower". The children waved both Chinese and American flags during their rendition. Peng was visibly moved as she watched the performance with her lips moving along to the lyrics, placing a hand on her heart at the end. She then turned to US First Lady, applauded the choir, and called out “bravo”. This song is significant in Peng’s career; she has performed it multiple times, including at the 2008 Beijing Olympics countdown event.
