Bristol-based company Vertical Aerospace has announced the establishment of an aircraft assembly centre at Cotswold Airport, near Kemble in Gloucestershire, marking it as the UK’s first air taxi facility. The Valo aircraft being developed there are electric, can carry four passengers, and have a range of up to 160km (100 miles) with zero operating emissions. Minister for Reindustrialisation Blair McDougall stated that the new facility would aid in transforming British innovation into manufacturing.
The assembly centre adds 60,000 square feet (5,574 square meters) to Vertical’s existing flight test center at Cotswold Airport. Construction of the new aircraft is set to begin late in 2027, with an initial production target of 25 units per year before scaling up to 900 annually by 2035. The company already has 1,500 orders for these air taxis, many from airlines, and aims to certify the planes for commercial use by 2029.
