Julious Johnican, a 25-year-old former elementary school teacher at George Washington Carver Montessori School in Indianapolis, was sentenced to two years in prison on September 24 for orchestrating and filming classroom fights. The case came to light when, during a parent-teacher conference, he inadvertently played footage of one of his students being attacked by another student while he encouraged the assault. The footage showed a seven-year-old boy with disabilities being repeatedly hit while Johnican remained nearby, allegedly encouraging the attacker. Parents discovered this disturbing video in August 2023 and filed a lawsuit describing ongoing abuse against their child between August and November 2023, including attacks, bullying, threats, and injuries all allegedly under the teacher's instruction. Despite these severe allegations, Johnican received only two years in prison after pleading guilty to his role in creating a "fight club" for students with disabilities.
