On Friday, the New York Yankees retired CC Sabathia's No. 52 and honored him with a plaque in Monument Park during ceremonies before a doubleheader against Baltimore. Sabathia became the 24th player or manager to have his number retired by the team and the fifth member of the 2009 World Series champion Yankees to receive this distinction, joining Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, and Jorge Posada. Now 46, Sabathia signed a $161 million contract with the Yankees before the 2009 season after being convinced by general manager Brian Cashman during an initial meeting in December 2008. Reflecting on his career, Sabathia said that despite being intimidated by New York initially, he never imagined becoming part of Monument Park himself.
