On January 21, the NTSB released details about a tragic crash near Atwater, California, which killed a Fresno family. According to surveillance footage reviewed by investigators, the AA-5 aircraft, owned by Grumman American Aviation Corp., was boarded by pilot Eady and three passengers at Sierra Sky Park Airport before attempting takeoff on runway 30. The plane aborted its initial attempt halfway down the runway due to radio issues, returning later for a second try after minor repairs. During this second takeoff, witnesses reported that the aircraft lifted off about 1,000 feet from the end of the runway and pitched up sharply into a nose-high attitude before crashing. The NTSB investigation is ongoing, with details subject to change as more evidence emerges.
